Louisville Basketball Coach Rick Pitino turned 60 on Tuesday and got a late birthday present on Wednesday. No he didn't get a John Calipari cut out to throw darts at, he received the 4th basketball committment for the 2013 class and the 2nd in three days joining Junior College Point Guard Chris Jones. Akoy Agau, a consensus Top 100 Overall Recruit, is a 6-foot-8 230 pound Power Forward from Omaha, Nebraska that has over 30 scholarship offers. Schools like Cincinatti, Marquette, Xavier, Connecticut, Baylor, Florida and Georgetown have been trying to swoo the talented big man to their campus but in the end, the Louisville campus and the KFC YUM Center proved to be too much to overcome.

"I loved the campus and the Yum! Center," said Agau in an interview. "The locker rooms, their practice center and the dorms where the players stay is the best places I have ever seen. It was very impressive." Agau also spoke highly of Coach Pitino and his relationship with Assistant Coach, Kareem Richardson who started recruiting him while he was coaching at Drake and then Xavier. While most list Agau as a Power Forward, he has the skill set and athleticism to possibly play the wing. You can view some highlights of Agau here.
Shane's Take: Akoy Agau (Pronounced - "Uh-Koy Uh-Gow...think Cow but with a "G") is a very basketball smart big man with terrific footwork in the post. His upper body strength is good and will only improve with a college weight program and he has good shot blocking ability. He runs the floor well and is very fluid for his size. I'm impressed with his control on his "drop step" move and he has a very soft shot around the basket. Akoy dribbles very well for his size and is a very good passer. He keeps the ball close to his body and at a good height when backed up to the basket. Very quick off his feet and very strong and authoritative when attacking the rim. Agau is a very good pick up for the Cardinals and teamed up with guys like Chane Behanan and Montrezl Harrell could be very special. The 2013 Class consisting of Anton Gill, Terry Rozier, Chris Jones and Agau is now considered to be the 2nd or 3rd best class in the country by most recruiting services. ***Regardless of the class ranking or Agau's personal ranking, Rick Pitino has the future of Cardinal basketball looking brighter and brighter.
