Permalink Reply by Bluecreeker on February 7, 2013 at 8:34am Me thinks you listen to the "5%" too much. Most UK Football fans were ecstatic with the way PawPaw finished out his tenure. He won the games he was supposed to, and competed in the others as well as upset a few really good teams. UK was still a middle/lower tier SEC team.....but at least they were competitive.
Anybody, and I do mean anybody who thinks UK can win a SEC Title in the next 2 years is just smokin crack.
Even though UK's recruiting class ranked 27 Nationally, it ranked 14th in the SEC and I do believe Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Miss St, Vanderbilt....and a few others are trying to win the same trophy.
I will be glad to see UK competing on the field again....that's all. The stands will be full again as the fans voted with their feet and got results. Can't wait to tailgate at Commonwealth once more.
Oh yea......Joker as inept as he was didn't leave the cupboard bare either.

Stoops better hope and pray he can put a decent string of wins together SOON with this recruiting class that is one of UKs best....otherwise he will be looking for work with Joker!
Just reading the UK blogs will tell you their fans are expecting an SEC Championship in two years.
Even with the highest rated class in school history, the Cats still ranked 13th
out of the 14 teams in the SEC today and Mark Stoops has yet to win one game in
Blue.Yet Boy Toy Matt Jones is having an orgasm and crowing like UK just beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl!!Let's see if he can beat WKU first......
Permalink Reply by CardinalConnie on February 7, 2013 at 9:06am I gotta tell 'ya BC IF those are just 5% of the Blue fanbase blogging those predictions you guys must have a One Billion member fan base!
I simply pointed out that some of these same folks were asserting Billy Clyde was the "essence of Rupp"when he set foot on campus...
And I agree Coach Stoops is holding up his share of the deal to put fans back in the seats and renew life to UK football.
I am still trying to finish off that Crow I had to eat by proclaiming Hatcher a Card!!!

Permalink Reply by CardinalConnie on February 8, 2013 at 12:21pm I remember when UK fans were all giddy and proclaiming Billy Clyde the "essence of Adolph Rupp"
How did that work out for them ???????

And thanks for the insight.

Amazingly, yes.....they got the #1 defensive end (don't recall his name). Football recruiting classes are far less accurate in their projections for success than basketball. Notre Dame had 4-5 top 5 or top 10 classes under Charlie Weiss when they went bowl-less for 3-4 years in a row; prior to showing him the door.
When Petrino was @ UL and guided the program to the Orange bowl win and #6 final national ranking in '06; UL's average player star rating was a 2.
That's why it's so hilarious that BBN is suddenly in a frenzy over their supposed hyped recruiting rankings. Granted, they SHOULD be improved in the coming years under Stoops; but improvement for them would be 5-6 or 6-5.
Until they actually show it on the field; and actually accomplish something; they need to keep their traps shut. Afterall, we've heard it all before as I recall.

Permalink Reply by Bobby P's Ghost on February 8, 2013 at 5:01pm Just means what it says. Just interesting ( to me, anyway) football statistics. Hey, if I have to face the fact that UK is last in the SEC in recruiting, it's fun to take a look at where we would be elsewhere. Plus, it shows that even though we're last, it's a great recruiting class. Plus, I didn't just dig the stats up. It was important enough to someone besides me that they put them in the paper!
What's totally comical is all the outrage coming from UL fans. After all the recruiting you guys posted on here for the last years, now all of sudden, it's "How dare they celebrate the greatest recruiting class they've ever had?" You know I'm right. Haha

Permalink Reply by Bobby P's Ghost on February 8, 2013 at 8:09pm You're right, you didn't say that I was downing uk's class - I guess the Haha threw me off. For the record, it was a great class for uk and a great stat. Outrage is probably a bit strong (no pun intended) but it sure ain't love either. Not surprising that it garnered a lot of attention - it's a message board after all.
What happened to all of the Peace and Love?

Sorry Bobby, I don't see where I said "you were denigrating UK's class." I don't remember you saying anything about UK's class. And no, I don't think it automatically means UK would win the BE , or anything else. It's a nice stat. That's all. And yeah, maybe it's not outrage. Maybe it's love. It's a lot of attention, anyway.
Bobby P's Ghost said:Haha, really? Where was I denigrating uk's class? Of course it's a great class, stupes & co. hit the ground running and did a fine job - uk fans have every right to be pleased. There wasn't any outrage in my question at all. You saw fit to highlight where uk's class stacked up against the BE and I simply asked you if you thought they would win the BE - it wasn't a trick question.

RedRager, as usual, a good post stating the facts. Of course, we disagree on the "whooping" part as I do think that in a couple of years UK will be winning a lot of FB games.

I for one have no idea why Hatcher made his decision to go to UK; absent any evidence, I would hesitate to suggest any payola. (Let's face it, if we were to look for such things, I'd have to believe Lane Kiffen's "budget" is larger than Stoops'.)
If I had to guess, it would be the opportunity for immediate playing time.
In any case, I think it's time to just wish the young man the best, and do our best to whoop that @ss for four years!
