HEY ALL YOU NBA-TO-LOUISVILLE FOLKS If I see one more news story like this one in Insider Louisville that posits an NBA franchise will be able to sign on to play in the YUM! Center, I will scream. I have one thing to say to such nonsense. Read the lease with UofL. UofL has the most ridiculous lease agreement ever with the Yum. And knowing what I know about NBA franchises and arena deals from watching the Orlando Magic, the UofL lease MUST be renegotiated before an NBA team could come close to getting the kind of deal THEY would want to come play here. And you can call Tom Jurich and ask him if he'd be willing to renegotiate to make that happen. I bet I know what he'd say. And FYI, I've read the lease.

This town IMO, will not support an NBA team. I am dating myself here but I used to support the KY Colonels ABA team eons ago. They never filled Freedom Hall when Dr. J came to town. I remember the Colonels were playing Dr. J's team (If I remember it was out of Virginia), and Muhammad Ali was being honored by John Y and Ellie Brown at half-time. It was the largest crowd I had seen at FH for a Colonels game and FH was only half full. And mind you, tickets were affordable back in those days.
Speaking of filling Freedom Hall, I attended UofL games faithfully as well. I am sure you are aware but it bares repeating. The CARDS didn't fill Freedom Hall back them either. After half-time I would jump down to empty seats on the floor behind the goals. Needless to say, this was prior to the 1980 Title win. After that of course, FH filled up and ticket prices shot through the roof.
Permalink Reply by CardinalConnie on January 28, 2013 at 11:28am As a teenager I do recall going to FH for a couple of ABA games.I believe it was a $4.00 entry fee with a free hot dog and soft drink included.
I also recall prior to 1980 UL only filling the bottom arena back when it held only 16,000.
We know NO ONE in our circle who would pay the prices of NBA season seats. And certainly NO UL fan would ever want to be in favor of all the UL adware being removed from The YUM! to accomodate a celler dweller NBA franchise.
Any one who thinks the rural rubes will fork out large money to attend an NBA game in Sin City is Nucking Futs!!!
